Providing learning material in short bursts that anyone can access any time is being touted as the “next big thing.” We all have personal experiences of learning in this way, but how do we apply it to corporate learning? Does it work for all training, all the time, with all audiences? And how do you ensure any measure of accountability? How do you measure outcomes? If you want to use microlearning in your organization’s learning strategy, this book is for you. Every page has a new micro idea for creating a microlearning program. It will empower you to capitalize on this new type of education to meet the needs of modern learners.

If common sense were actually common, there'd be no need for a book like this... but common sense is surprisingly rare. I like this book -- Carla breaks about 150 great tips ("Micro Ideas") on microlearning, as well as her MILE model (MIcro LEarning design model), into smart chunks. For $15, you really get your money's worth on the tips, based on the author's solid experience. Here's Micro Idea #108, for example: "Find ways to organize your content so that people don't have to hunt for it. For example, creating a microlearning library or portal can be a great way to get people to your content quickly." Great tip! The reason I gave the book four stars instead of five is that the book falls short of providing the "how" for the tips... of course, then it really wouldn't be a microlearning guide to microlearning - it'd be "The Complete Guide to Microlearning" (which would be an awesome book). But still - for $15, buy it, read it, put Post-Its on the ideas that will improve your approach, and do your own research to figure out how to implement those ideas in your shop.
If Carla ever does write The Complete Guide to Microlearning, I'll buy the first copy!

The Microlearning Guide to Microlearning Carla Torgerson 9780692806678 Books Reviews
This book is basically mockery of the buyer. Do not buy it.
Microlearning on Microlearning. Brilliant idea!
Our department has embraced micro as a key part of our digital learning strategy. Carla has provided us with a wealth of ideas, saving us hundreds of hours doing R&D.
If you are undertaking a review of your approach to eLearning via LMS this is book is a great springboard.
A rather shallow take on microlearning. I guess that is to be expected?
Micronuggets of information on microlearning, how cute! Seriously, this is a short article that you can find on the internet in book form. Do a quick internet search and don't waste your time waiting or flipping pages for what is, as another reviewer wrote, "obvious common sense".
I love this book because it is short, simple and practical. I read it to get smart fast before embarking on my own practice of microlearning design. Thank goodness I did. Otherwise I would have made rookie mistakes. I consider this a must read for the serious practitioner of microlearning. Thanks Carla for providing this invaluable resource to the learning community.
Not sure what the author was trying to achieve, but I found this book rather useless. It provided no real ideas for Microlearning and was structured in an odd way.
What a wonderful resource on microlearning! The book itself is set up as short bursts of information that convey both theory and practice in accessible and consumable nuggets. My favorite "Always ask yourself How do I earn every minute of seat time?" Carla has given us the gift or her experience and expertise in learning, and the book is well worth every minute of your time!
